Re "Electric Scotland", I have usually found that I don't like it as much as this site:

It's just a personal preference - Electric Scotland can be very good, but I justt thought I'd mention it for anyone interested.

And welcome to Scotland.com, Clan Grant. Still, no amount of trying to bite my tongue (or typing fingers) can stop me mentioning that you can't have a "lochness Lake" - It is simply Loch Ness, ("loch) meaning "lake"). However, it sounds as though you are all happily fired up to search for your ancestors - best of luck (and enjoyment) with it.

I know a little bit about the grant clan cause i am also a grant clan myself in america. I remember doing a project over it and found information like the motto, pictures, etc... Here are so of them

I love you enthusiasm for Our clan . I just hope that you keep checking in here , so that we can chat about Our Family.

Yup Duncan , you are bang on the mark We do have a castle on the shores of the lake Ness . In fact it is on the Ness (nose) itself , part way along , on the north side of the loch. Our castle there is called Urquhart Castle .
We are the last Clan to own and live in it , and we also blew it up..... If you go here ... http://www.clangrant-us.org/FAQ.htm ... you will find info about it , and much more besides.

We have two major clan lands ( historically maybe , but still ours in spirit eh )
The first is in StrathSpey , and the other is the one you speak of, around GlenMoriston . Both have a town , built under the direction one of our chiefs , James Grant of Grant , at the time when folk from other clans were being 'cleared'

Just a wee tip Duncan , whenever you 'google' for clan grant info , beware of 'tartan shortbread' 'coffee book' style sites , that recycle incorrect 'history' We grants have had our history twisted almost beyond repair by a few so called historians in the late 1800's and since then most have blindly followed their lead .

Personally I think you should beware of anyone that mentions Lake Ness! There is only one lake in Scotland and its NOT the one that Urquhart Castle sits beside!

the young lad , Duncan , was right about the position of the Castle , and he was also right about it being beside the lake. Just because he did not know that 'loch' is 'lake' and , is no reason to slight him .
Such pedanticness does not help our people to learn and love out history , etc .
He is young and was inquiring about his history . He was not given a reasonable reception , and he has not come back .
Shame on they , who treated him thus.
It is they whom we should be wary of .
