I have done some research on my family history, and i have found that my fathers name is both from Scottland and Ireland just the same. My question is this; does my "clan" still exist in some form?? and if i fall under a different clan which one?? my fathers name is Robert Dalles Gilliland. I did find out that from the scottish side of things the name Gilliland was shortened from MacGilliland around 1739-49. How do i find out if i am more of one culture than another?? If ayone can help me as much as possible i would be very greatfull indeed. Thank you,
Duane Dalles "MacGilliland"

It sounds like your American. I am too. My last name is Gililland, but originally was spelled Gilliland. Check out http://www.Gililland.net. It has a family history of when the Gillilands came to America. The name went to Gililland after 3 brothers moved to Missouri and obviously did not know how to spell there name. I think you may get something of value from this.
