Hallo. I am doing research on the Patricks. They are a big family. Could you all help me search way back into the late 18th century? I can barely understand why they would leave in the first place. If you could shed some light, it would be handy. I am well aware of the histories as they have been presented to me in the books but a local perspective would be nice. I do know that they went through Charlestown, North Carolina when they came to the states because the Boston harbour was closed due to the Revolutionary war--but which specific town did they come from? Thanks you all a big bunch!!Elzpath

The Patricks were of Landed Gentry. Why would they leave? There are varied ways of spelling the name Patrick. Some of them most interesting. They took that name because it came from the Latin Patricus meaning Patrician. Now, the Irish version of Patrick obviously has religeous connotations because of the St Patrick who did his thing of introducing the Catholic faith to them. One of my favorite spelling of Patrick is Patryck. They came from a place called Berry and there abouts. I left my notes at the house so I will fill in the details later. I believe that it most of them came from the central part of Scotland. Good Day!
