Crest help

Hi all,

As a newbie here, I was wondering if there is anyone that might be able to offer their knowledge and experience.

I'm an Aussie, and we suspect that there is a Scottish heritage in our family line. I am finding it difficult to trace the connection because it appears as though most of the members have been women and as such, any identifying surname has been lost through marriage and time.

All I have to go on at this moment is what we think may be a family/clan crest that my grandmother recalls seeing in her youth. All she really recalls is that the crest displayed an image of a fox, and possibly swallows.

Does anyone have any idea on what clan/family may have had a crest displaying these features? I'd appreciate any help to no end.

Kind regards

Hi Tig,

Thanks for that! Yes, I've been googling my little heart out for images of crests with foxes on them (and swallows), and have found sites that document the apparent meaning of the symbolism of both, but I am yet to find the hidden treasure...it appears that knowing the family name/clan would make the whole process run smoother. When I search for crests with foxes on it, I get the literal results- crests for the surname Fox (not with the image of the fox on the crest...if that makes sense, and ironically, it appears to be a lion on that particular crest).

If it helps at all, Nan also recalls something about the colours blue and gold having to do with it all.

Sarah ,
along with looking for a clan crest , have you carried out a search for a Coat of Arms , that incorporates foxes and swallows ?

I take it from that that your grandmother is still alive. Aren't you able to work back a little from her own birth certificate using Aussie records.
