Did Robert Burns ever wear tartan? I can't recall any pictures of him wearing any or seeing any at the museum or his birthplace in Alloway! I guess there will be those who say 'because he is Scottish he HAS to have a tartan' and I even reckon there will be one! Who am I to stand in the way of continued Brigadoonery? No doubt someone will be along soon to provide the required info soon... but if they do, I for one would like to see evidence to back it up!

There is a wee bit here:Clan Burns latch hook rug tartan pattern | jostartanpatterns.com
And I do mean wee. Quite modern though, site claims it dates between 1930 and 1950. Love to know why something that recent doesn't have more information though.
The Burns 'clan' is considered a sept of Clan Campbell.

Why would being a mason or being in Edinburgh mean he would wear tartan? As I have already said, I haven't seen any picture showing Burns wearing tartan anywhere. People who don't normally wear a kilt in this century might do so at a wedding or other major event, but that doesn't mean they did so back in the 18th century.

The bottom line is, no matter how much you think something must have happened doesn't mean it did... so maybe you need to accept you won't find what you are looking for!
