Post Sought: Clan History, Clan anecdotes and more

Hi,

Just to drop in with a bang: I'm looking for anything historically Clan related. I'm researching the Scottish History (to be more precise, Clan History) in order to write a novel based on Clansmen.

To give you a sneak preview at the pitch:
"What if the Clans were as powerful now as they were 300 years ago?
Scottish born, 25 year old Mollie Fraser, systems analyst for a Wall Street firm, faces the challenge of his life when he is confronted with the cruelties carried out by the ancestral Clan. Mollie and his Irish colleague and buddy Eoaghan O'Rourke decide to investigate what appears to be going on. They find out that the Hierarchy of the Clans is still very much alive... For Centuries, Clan Fraser has been at war with Clan Munro. Can Mollie break the centuries old mold?"

*The names & storyline are a concept; they can still be changed*

What am I looking for?

- Historical facts,
- Anecdotes,
- Clan traditions,
- At some point into the story: occasional translations from English to Scotch Gaelic (Not realms of text, just certain sentences/expressions)

What can I offer you?
A notation of gratitude in the novel (and maybe at publishing, a copy of the story). Mind, I'm just a working lad with an ambition...

Thanks all in advance...!

That is the most incorrect thing you could say - historically. The Clan Fraser and Clan Munro were great allies.

They fought together on the same side at the Battle of Bealach Nam Broig in 1452.

The Frasers rescued John Munro, the chief's brother at the Battle of Clachnaharry in 1454.

The Munros and Frasers together took over Inverness Castle in 1562 for Mary, Queen of Scots.

In 1649 the Munros and Frasers again together took over Inverness Castle.

Munros and Frasers fought on the same side together at the Battle of Glenshiel in 1719.

Theres a whole load more of examples I could give but those are the only ones off the top of my head right now.

Seriously the Fraser's main enemies were the MacDonalds and the Munro's enemies were the Mackenzies.

Thanks for your response, Dread.

As I said, names/events can still be amended/scrapped/corrected as it is still in research status..

That's why I need the expertise of some truly Scotch History buffs like yourself. Although the story is meant to be fiction, I'd prefer it to be fact fiction rather than thumb sucked fiction..

So if you'd like to help me out, i'd be ever so grateful.

Thanks again!

I've just had a look at your web site and (if I am reading it right) you are implying the Picts were Danish? I've left a comment on your site about this, but the bottom line is you maybe need to recheck your sources! Good luck with the book tho!
