Question

Hi, I am trying to find out which clan Sangster is part of. Are Sangster's originally Scottish?

Arrow Sangster

Hi, My name is Chuck Gunn.

My Dad's name is Arthur, and my mother is Jaqueline Sangster Gunn. My mother's paternal grandfather was: William L. Sangster, born in Edinborough, Scotland, circa 1871. I guess that makes him a Scotsman. His wife was a Cowan. If you have any information you couild share, please send me an email.

Thanks in advance!!

Chuck Gunn

There were 1469 Sangsters in the U.K. 1881 census, though there are some in England the majority are Scottish born and Aberdeenshire is the county where most of them were born

Sangsters are Scottish, originally from Scandanavia, they came to Aberdeen and taught the choir hence the name (songster). Most Sangsters are in Aberdeen followed by Edinburgh. Sangsters are entitled to wear the Aberdeen District tartan and I am cuurently tring to find out if Sangsters can wear the Gordon tartan as I have been told. Hope this helps you. By the way my branch of the Sangsters come from Edinburgh.
