Smile Seeking Clan Collins

Dear Scotland,
I have learned that my mothers', fathers' family is from Scotland but, I have no idea where. Both my mother Eleanor and my Grandfather Aberham Lincon Collins died before our family was told about Clan Collins. I have uncles who have information about our family, but refuse to give any info at all.
This is a stange part of my post but, I have been dreaming of Scotland Highlands for over a year now. So vivid even though I've yet to vist. I am going to start looking in Inverness for a starting point. I just can't shake the feeling I'm suppose to go to Scotland. I feel like someone or something is waiting for me there. I will be in Scotland next late July or August of 2011.
Is there anyone of Scotland's beautiful people have any words of addvice and suggestions for me. Right now I live in Northern New York, USA. PLEASE
don't hold that against me. I live by Lake Champlain in the far Noth East of NY.
As far as I know, My family settled in or by Lion Mountain, New York, Saranc Mountains, NY.
Thank you all for reading my post and I hope to hear from all of you.

Warmest Regards,
Michelle Lena

Hello.
A quick google search seemed to suggest that the origins of the name Collins are English and Irish, with a mention of Collins in Aberdeenshire and Argyllshire as well.

If the name is claimed as a Clan or sept to a clan, you might be able to find it via Rampant Scotland Directory which has a good list of clans and their septs.

Good luck with your research.

Smile Thank You

Dear Polwarth,
I thank you for responding to my post. I know that I have a starting point now. I thought that there was Irish roots, but my family said,'' Scotland was where the start of our history began." I guess I'll find out.
Warmest Wishes,
MichelleLena

Even IF your family were of Irish stock, there is a chance they may be Scots, simpy because many Irish immigrants settled here after the Famine.

As I said, the Google search I started also said that there were Collins in 2 Scottish counties!

The only way to 'know' is to check back to the first immigrant to your country and then trace them back, via passenger lists/immigration records to an area of Scotland.

Smile I'm Glad

Oh my, what countie's ? I bought some books on Scotland culture and the everyday life's of it's people. I'm sooo looking forward to going there next year. I'm going to research as much as I can, I don't want to make a fool of myself. Maybe I will meet some Scots that will take my breath away with tale's of adventure and folk lore and LOVE and FAMILY...( CLANS ).
" I donna ken" what I will do with myself if all comes true... I may want to stay in Scotland or bring " LOVE " back to America with me!! I'm going to try and learn some Gaelic as well. Send me any info you think I'd be intrested in ok.
