Wink Erm!

Are you sure you are a direct descendant of Robert the Bruce, or, which is more likely, you have been told that your name is (which is either Bruce or a sept of the same clan)connected to him in some way.

Going by this I am a direct descendant of King Duncan I who was one of the first Kings of Scotland from about 8th or 9th Century.

If indeed you have been able to trace your ancestry back alomost 1000 years then good luck to you and have a look on http://www.electricscotland.com

Thumbs up Robert Bruce

Assuming you have some idea of the line of Robert Bruce it would be almost impossible to trace so far back. The Bruce family were a large group mainly outside of Scotland with the main seat of the family in North Yorkshire-England. Infact some historians argue Robert himself not being a Scot at all.
The very best of luck in your search-Its all out there and our job as genealogists to find it.Unfortunately most of what we find is dead ends.Good luck-

Smile re: descendants of robert the bruce

i have been led to believe by my parents, that we are descended from robert the bruce. i don't know how true it is though!
my surname at birth was BYRNE, my father was Terence, and his father was Jack, a sailor from Ireland i believe. Does that help you?

Re: re: descendants of robert the bruce

Byrne, does this not sound a bit Irish? I will have a look round.

I have to agree to Martlet (who is really good at genealogy and finding lost ancestors! )that it is, even IF you were a descendant of Robert the Bruce, to trace back your ancestry so far back.

There are family trees and pedigrees to be traced back right to the 13th century, but they have been recorded all the time through. Once they are partially or completely lost, it is an eerie work to trace them back. We can, however, try to do something for you if you would provide us with some more info on your family (names, birthdates, places they lived etc.)

This could be an interesting adventure.

With the greatest respect to all those genaeologists out there, there is one easy way to see your line clearly defined throughout the past 700+ years. Follow the money and the lines of nobility. If he is connected to certain lines of nobility then it may be very easy for him to be sure of his lineage. Most people do not have the benifit of a rich or wealthy heritage. They would be lucky to get back 250 years. If I had no accessible lineage tree then I could only go as far as 1754. Which is quite an achievement for the poor line. The rich line; Black Douglas and MacBeth.

Follow the money and the records are clear. Someone above said that the only way to be connected or realise your connection is to have some idea of the line. Connections to the stewart line would make him "kin" in the antiquated sense of the word. Most of us should be very aware of the details of the stewart line.

Most of us also know that the true amount of descendents is so phenomenal in its size that we are all likely to be descended from noble lines and in turn..........

Just follow the money. Money leaves good records and if you are lucky enough to be associated with the aristocracy then there are few problems with lineage. The problems that you will encounter are fascinating anyway.

Family trees are complicated. If they are not studied INTIMATELY (a rare thing and difficult to achieve) then to deny a connection is as absurd as claiming one.

If you had said Wallace was an ancestor then I would argue.

Bruce is easy to connect to. Wealth and titles always are.
