This is for dferg, or David like everybody calls you.

My name is Yvette, I was looking for information about the Fergusson or Ferguson, that's the way it was spelled when it got to my ears. My boyfriend was born in Edinburgh, and Ferguson was his grand-mother's maiden name. Also he has the badge Dulcius ex Asperis which he got from his mother. His mom died twelve years ago, and he is 29 years old right now. I am more than sure that he would love to get in contact with you.
I have been searching through web sites, and as far as they go with the Ferguson clan is about some description of it's meaning.

"The name Fergusson sprang to life in many, widely spread parts of Scotland. Ideally the name could be traced back so as to bring the families together to a single ancestral family, but when we consider that the name Fergus in Gaelic means “the angry” and “the proud", we can appreciate that such a descriptive term would have been applied to someone at some time in almost every village."

Well, that's as far as I got. Hope to hear from you soon. My e-mail addy is Highlands100@hotmail.com and I am not Scottish, I am in Miami and have cuban parents.

Take care.
Love
YvY

Yeah, well there were probably several Fergus's and the clan has always been more scatered and diverse than some, we all like to believe that we are descended from Fergus Mor Mac Erc, first King of Dalriada (which went on to combine with Pictland to become Alba/Scotland). It is by their rather fragile and diluted traces of his blood that the current UK monarchs have any claim to the throne, all other royal lines of the time being pretty much extinct.

Just to point out when all these coats of arms are being displayed that they are not the coat of arms of the clan, but the personal arms of the chief.
The clan crest (in the belt with motto) is for use by clan members but the full coat of arms is the personal property of the chief and for anyone else to use it as theirs is illegal (although this is something that will rarely be prosecuted as all the tourist shops sell them as your own shield).
If you want your own coat of arms you must personally register a unique one (generally a modification of the clan chiefs) with Lord Lyon, unfortunately this costs about £800 pound, but is better than a personalised numberplate anyday.
