hello. i would like to know any information you can give me on the ferguson clan. i am not for sure which clan, but some of my family members have said that we were kin to a King Fergus. we have no proof of his existence. did he really rule in scotland or just a myth/lie? any info would be of great help. thank you for your time and effort.

Ferguson

The Fergusons are Celtic. They were long settled in Argyll, where the chiefs of Clan Fhearghuis of Stra-chur were Hereditary Maers of Glenshellich. Fergusson of Dunfallandy has long been Chief of Fergussons in Atholl. Two of the clans, sons of the Laird of Badyfarow, near Iverury, figured prominently. "Robert the Plotter," concerned in the Ryehouse Plot, escaped detection and died in 1714. James, a Major-General, served under Marlborough at Blenheim. The Fergussons, Baronets of Kilkerran, have held lands in Ayrshire since the reign of Robert I. Sir James Fergusson, 6th Baronet, a distinguished statesman, was killed in the Jamaica earthquake 1906. Adam Ferguson, historian and moral philosopher; Robert Ferguson, the poet, and Sir William Ferguson, F.R.S., were illustrious members of the clan. "Annie Laurie," heroine of the song, was wife of Ferguson of Craigdarroch. Brigadier-General Ferguson commanded the Highland Brigade at the capture of the Cape of Good Hope.
