Talking Dunn Clan

WE are looking for any information in regards to the Dunn Clan, yes we are scots not Irish
Grand father was George Dunn borne around 1812, married to an Agnas Currie as far as
we know, immigrated to Canada it is believed in the 1800s, burried at Macgregor Manitoba
Canada, sons were Will, Ross, Manual, Fred, Frank and Lawrence dunn, it is believed that
there were two daughters one we know was Cassie believe this was short for Cassandra,
it said that we had some affiliation eith the Erskine Clan and that whether it was because
of desease or war that the family was almost wiped out, this has not been confirmed.
If there are any Dunns or anyone else that can provide some information about the Dunns
and foward it ti myself it would be greatly appreciated.

I cannot find anything to suggest that the name Dunn was a clan. The little information online seems to suggest it is a lowland/borders name. I found the following on a Canadian site - but cannot vouch for how accurate the info might be! Origin of Clan Dunn

It couldn't find any link as a sept to Clan Erskine, but lists of septs have proved 'fluid' (shall we say?!) over the years - so it may well have been a sept name which the Chief removed at some date.

Have you tried doing research via the Scotlandspeople site? It's part of the GRO in Scotland. The service is not free, but if you have your questions ready, it can be a fairly inexpensive way of determing FACTS rather than family stories - if you have knowledge of ~WHERE your ancestors lived, it would probably help immeasurably. Duns is a small place in the Scottish borders.

Thank you Polwarth for the information we do know that we have a tartan, I was told just recently that
we may have come from around Peebleshire or Mayar hope that is the right spelling, I have traced
our sirname back to the 6th century and that at one time it was spelled Doonan, thank you once again
and I will keep on reseaching.

I had wondered why Dunn was listed as a sept of Clan MacInnes on that website I posted..... I don't think I've seen it listed elsewhere!

Talking Dunn Clan

In recent research I have discovered that our family (Dunn) fought at the battle of Cullode
Wed. 16 April 1746, this is when a great loss of life occured during the battle and the after-
math when the British murdered the wounded and hundreds of innocent people, if anyone
has information as to where a list of the clans that fought in the battle can be viewed this
would be of geat value.

Thank You.
