Ive traced my family history from MacKean to MacDonald's of Glencoe, floowoing the massacre of 1692 the family was split up....im just looking for people who now more about the family and the where abouts...
what i do know, is that the Chief was MacIan..he had left to pay homage to the royal government, but was held against his will at a Campbell castle, and he missed the deadline, so the government troops with the help of the campbells killed 38 macdonalds on feb. 13 1692...after they had been the guest of the macdonalds of glencoe for almost 2 weeks....and numerous members of the clan fled up the icy mountains and froze to death.... if you have any info or would like to know any, im not an expert but ive been there 4 times and have an extensive library and im only 20 hahaha, hard to believe hey... Hi Justin,
Your family clan is such a small and peaceable clan that it is difficult to dig up a lot of material. You are right, they were sympathizers with the desposed Stewards which in the end, got most of them killed. Sad story that yet lingers in the mind of us Scots. I will check out some of my history books and see if I can find any other info. |
