Woodrup - origins?

Hi there.

My husband is a Woodrup and has been told his name originated in Scotland.
Can anyone shed any light on this? Woodrup isn't a very common name so would be interested to find out more about it.

According to The Internet Surname Database the name is of Anglo-Saxon origin... more info can be found in the link to the site itself!

Husband has some idea (flight of fancy??) that it has something to do with Rob Roy, and changes of name as a result.

Rob Roy changed his name from MacGregor to Campbell (his mother's maiden name) and most of the MacGregors changed their name to other (nearby or associated) clan/family names, none of which (as far as I can see) were Woodrup... so it may very well be a flight of fancy on your husband's part!
