Hello All,
![]() I'm new to Scotland.com and this is my first thread posted so hopefully, somebody out there will be able to help me with a few questions. My grandfather ( John Armstrong Sangster ) was born in Edinburgh Castle as his father was attached to a regiment stationed there in 1905 so i have been told that my great grandfather would have been attached to one of 2 regiments, either the 'Black Watch' or 'The Royal Scots' unless anyone can inform me otherwise ? My other question is regarding which kilt I should wear at a wedding I'm attending and which clan the 'Sangster's' would have been associated with - various sources have told me a number of answers relating to being asigned closely to the MacGregor clan ? or that it is not assigned to any clan and the only kilt I can officially wear is the Aberdeen District kilt where the Sangsters originally came from. Other people have told me that if my great grandfather was indeed from the Black Watch then I can choose to wear this tartan, although I know that many ppl without a tartan choose to wear the Black Watch tartan anyway. Be grateful for any advice and thanks in advance KR's Ian. [/font] |

Hello
According to the MacGregor site, they do not claim Sangsters as a sept, as you can see here. Welcome to Clan Gregor If you live outwith Scotland, wear any tartan you choose - there are no tartan police! Personally, I'd avoid the Buchanan though.... far too bright for most peoples' taste ![]() You should remember that not all Scottish names were a clan or even sept to a clan - especially if they were based in the lowlands. |
