Eve, hope you don't mind, but this story is too interesting to not let everyone read.

I have a book called the "Scottish Clan & Family Encyclopedia." Eve told me her name is associated with the Clan Gunn. Here's a condensed version of the Clan Gunn.

The name first appeared at the end of the 12th century, apparently a man named Gunni and his wife inherited estates from her brother, Harald, who was the Jarl of Orkney.(Vikings) Further along, the first chief of Clan Gunn, to appear in records, was George Gunn, who was a coroner in the 15th century. He was known as the "great brooch-wearer" because of the insignia from him being a coroner. When he held court, in his castle at Clyth, he did it in such splendour it rivaled any Highland chief.

This is what is interesting. The Gunns' traditional enemies were the Keiths. Eve, isn't the guy you've been talking to a member of Clan Keith? Anyways, it gets even better. Apparently a Dugald Keith coveted Helen, the daughter of Gunn of Braemor. The girl resisted his advances and upon hearing that his "desired" was to marry another, he surrounded the castle, slaying many of the inhabitants and carried the girl away. Unfortunately, she couldn't stand the thought of submitting to him and threw herself from the castle tower. YIKES!!!
(This is better than most romance novels!)

Hope you enjoy that piece of history. Eve, this is so cool.

Becca,
That's really cool info! (hey could you look up MacWilliam for me...although I know we also have connections to the Gunns)
Eve, I posted a crest for the Gunn Clan under MacWilliam; would you like me to post that here?
(Does this mean Eve & I get to dress like "twins"?) (*giggle*)

becca, can you look up Mccaffrey or Hopkin. I have no clue if Hopkin is Scottish or not, but hey, I know that I have family in Scotland with both last names. If you could do this for me it would really help me out. Thank you in advance.

Eve,
When you have the chance checkout the two Gunn Tartans on www.tartans.scotland.net
(Official Register of Tartans). The second Gunn Tartan is very similar to the MacWilliam Tartan I posted on my "clan" page.
Happy Hunting!

Hi Eve! I bought the book at Barnes & Noble.

I forgot to give you the clan motto: Either peace or war
