Although the moto is more properly shown in the Latin form: Aut pax aut bellum.
Note, this is not true for all clans motos, some are in Ltin, some English, Scots or even Gaelic. See my topic under Dulcius Ex Asperis for the Gun crests, both coat of arms and clan badge. |

Bluegrass, not really, its just that sometimes when people talk about the crest they could mean the whole coat of arms. In theory only the Chief could bear the full crest (coat of arms) but any associated clansman can wear the badge, surrounded by a belt, as its normally depicted.
I tend to talk about "badge" and "coat of arms" rather than crest just to avoid confusion |
