I would suggest

that only those who are born and bred in Scotland can really call themsleves Scottish in every sense. People born here but not bred here would have difficulty understanding what it is to be Scottish and people not born here but bred here do not have the genes!!

of decent

My father all ways told us kids that we were of scottish/irish decent, SOOO I did a trace and found a line of decent from AyrShire To here in Georgia ( This was found sufficent for my Clan Chief to Grant me One feather and a position as a Clan Commissioner). So it makes no never mind to me what some may think ,,,I'm an American of scottish desent, and will continue to celibrate my Family/Clan connection to Scotland every chance I get.
do some research, establish your connection , and be proud of the blood.
