Hadooken??!
And I got criticised for posting on the Clan pages and not the Language pages when I wanted to know how Scots felt about being characterised as "canny"!
![]() Never mind. Some of my (Scottish) Bannatyne relatives claimed that the Bannatynes were Strathclyde Britons... where do they fit in? Cheers Peter |

Croi says, "Your ancestors could have been speaking English for the last 1000 years or more."
Thanks, Croiboy. Not sure when they switched to Gaelic, but they were still speaking Gaelic into the twentieth century (on the west side of Arran). I'm a bit dubious about the Strathclyde Briton thing, since there's not exactly a lot of documentation. Where did you learn all this stuff? Polwarth says, "Thread 'drift' is one thing - that's inevitable - but posting a new thread in an area which has nothing to do with the CORE content is quite another!" Perhaps it would be useful to have a "Scottish Identity" forum, since (1) this is a popular topic and (2) a great many (most?) Scots and Scots descendants have no clan affiliation, as a number of contributors to this site have pointed out at various times. Moderator please note. Some contributions to the Scottish identity discussion have been very illuminating. I think I know now where my propensity to want to have the last word and score points comes from. And since these are not very endearing traits that I have no wish to indulge, this is my last post. Yours aye, Peter |
