Scottishness and identity

So, if I stay, does that make me a Scot? Or does it make me Scottish? Perhaps I'm of Scottish descent? Perhaps I'm still a plastic scot?... Seriously, I don't get it.

Regardless, I only have this to say to greenscot.

I have 3 simple questions and then you can go back to your Scot-ness!

1. Does 1,500 people actually represent your whole country?

2. Does an accent make you Scottish? If so then Mel Gibson and Liam Neeson are Scots?

3. Who the hell said ANYTHING about skin color?


Then..."Nine out of 10 people surveyed said a non-white person who spoke with a local accent could claim to be Scottish."..."But fewer than half said they would view someone born in England as a Scot, even if they had a Scottish accent."

*fog starts lifting, shaking head*

Then YOU added..."The vast majority of scots would not accept them as scottish and thats fact" and lastly, "Everyone I know rolls their eyes at foreigners pretending to be scottish."

Thank you for taking the time to copy and paste your link. I feel I'm a better person (not a Scottish person) after reading it. You are doing your country proud. Gee, if I was Scottish, I'd buy you a dram of whiskey!

PS I have shown nothing but respect for the Scots, the Scottish culture, it's people, and her history. Perhaps you could show your OWN country the same. If she'd claim you!

1. I did not expressly say that having a scots accent makes you scottish, I stated that it is an attribute among many others that makes you scottish.

2. mel gibson and liam neeson do not have scottishs accents. When they spoke with a scottish accent it was called acting.

3. a sample of 1500 scots, who express a similer belief IS a good example of what scots believe. especially as I know for fact what the majority of scots agree on in regards to whom is scottish. I have lived here my whole life.

4. if you send £400 through pay pal I can make you scottish by giving you the authentic scottish diploma. for an extra £50 you get a handful of mud and broken glass from glasgow green.
