looking for Borgny
Hello,
I live in Belgium. I had a grandfather who came from Scotland. His family name was Borgny(or Borgni?). I never met him because it was during the WWII. I would like to know if this name could be scottish or not? Zardoz |

Hello
I've never heard of either name as being Scots - the two versions you give sound either Hungarian or Italian to me. I'll have a look and see if I can find anything, though. ![]() Edited to add: I haven't had any luck in finding any connection to Scotland for Borgny - but found references in a search that the name is Norwegian in origin. This does not mean that your relative wasn't Scots, merely that the name is Norwegian. Maybe his family settled in Scotland at some time in the past?
