Family name: Mcconnell

Hello,
I too am researching the mcconnell name, I beleave mine is Irish?
My dads family once told me they came from Ireland? But my mom left the family when I was 1 year of age. I am now 25 will be 26 this aug.
I am having problems as well. All I know is that I beleave that my dads mothers name is susan mcconnell, and I think but am not sure the dads name is John W mcconnell but goes by the name Bud?
They said they came by ship from ireland?
And my mom knows that the home they lived in when she was there was either sues or bud parents home passed to them, and at the time they were alive. but she doesn't know whos parents or there names? She has no dates of any one, but sue and buds only child is PATRICK WILLIAM MCCONNELL.
And I can't get intouch with them either!? If any of this sound like something you might know let me know or if I find out anything I will try to let you know. My facts are way too far and wide. Maybe one of us will come up with something, for us together or even the others information? Thank You AND GOOD LUCK....

Hi, to answer your question, yes! Jack McConnell's still around, but hopefully not for much longer!

Mcconnellyn
The trouble is: Ireland is two countries. The south is the Republic of Ireland (Eire) and the North is Northern Ireland, which is still part of the UK.

The records for births/deaths/marriages are kept in the two countries. Until you know a place in Ireland, it would be difficult to work out anything more about your family.

Two states... as far as I'm concerned they're the same country...

McConnell has two possible origins.

Some say it is what it looks like - son of Conal, but others say that it is the south west - i.e. Argyll down to Galloway - version of MacDhòmhnaill, which is usually Englished as MacDonald. And which comes out as McDonnell across the North Channel.
