We can trace are family back to England..and our good family friends (since the big immigration period) the Wrights are British/scottish I believe.
I'm wondering if there is a Thomas Clan as well? or a Wright one? That would be awesome = > -Thanks! -Ryan |

Thomas is usually considered Welsh in the UK island, but I know it is sometimes a German and sometimes Scandinavian name, too.
Wright is classed as an 'occupational' name (shipwright, wheelwright etc)from the old English for a Wryta or worker... It's English. Doesn't mean there aren't Scots with those surnames, just that they aren't Scots names, per se! It is worth knowing that not all Scots names have clan connections. The clan system was basically a highland system - so many Scots from the lowlands and Borders were never part of that system at all. There are tartans called District Tartans (self-evident explanation!) and those who are unable to claim a connection to a clan and its tartans can wear a tartan connected to the area where they live or where their ancestors originated. |
