Question

This may seem like a really stupid question, but I am wondering if anyone can tell me what Scottish temperament and habits might be like now and in ancient times.
I have read in some history books that many of the men had great tempers and were loud and party animal types.
Now I realize that this goes without saying and can be found among Any culture. However, I can only go by my own family. When my family gets together Everyone is Loud, Everyone wants to talk all at the same time and Everyone loves a good party with all the merryment involved.
But, the tempers do flare and everyone will speak his or her own mind and be quick about it to tell you so.
I have also heard that the Scots are frugle folks and don't waste things or spend frivolously.
Is there any bits of truth to this?
I am trying to learn of Scottish habits and character so that I will have a ~possible~ better understanding of my ancestors who were from there.
My own family and their in-laws were all Scottish, and they were all the time feuding about one thing or another.
So, even though this is a broad question and I know doesn't include every Scot, is there any hint of truth to any of this?
Thank you for any replies and history.

Talking Re: Temperment

My grandmother who was born in Fifeshire was really short...when someone said to her one day as a compliment "Good things come in small packages" She snapped back "so does dynamite and poison."
She used to say as she quickly dunked her teabag...Im a Scot so I let my teabag run through...that way I canna use it more....
She was spiteful lol! She came over on the White Star Liner and the famous Capt John Smith give her a bit of a smack for putting her feet over the edge of the boat....to the day she died when she mentioned that episode an elderly lady dissappeared in the telling of the tale and for all the world all you could see was a still spitefully angry little kid for being caught by the Captain...she was still stoked about it lol!
