The name Walsh does not seem to be Scottish, in 1881 there were only 337 in all of Scotland with that name, and do not seem to be allied to any clan, it appears to be an Irish name but I may be wrong.

Walsh tartan
My great-great grandmother was a Walsh. She is buried in a cemetary that belonged to the Church of Scotland (after her death, the church became the Presbyterian Church of Canada). Additionally, her daughter claimed to be of Scottish descent in the Canada census of 1901. I wouldn't give up the search for the Walsh tartan just yet. Let me know if you find one.

Walsh is, so far as I know, Irish in origin. That is not to say that your ancestor was not from Scotland - many Irish moved to Scotland - but that does not make the NAME Scots! so far as I can tell, there is no Scottish tartan for the name Walsh. Here's a little information from an irish surnames site Walsh: Breat (h) nach (Walshman) which is re-anglicized also as Brannagh, Brannick etc, A name given independently to many unconnected families in different parts of the country and now the fourth most numerous of all Irish surnames. It is sometimes spelt Welsh, which is the pronunciation |
