Hello
I have been invited to a Scottish wedding and whilst it isn't expected that I wear a kilt or anything I thought it might be nice to make the effort. I am not associated to any clan (although my grandmother [Cannell] was from Skye) and I have found a place where I can hire the tartan of my choice which is Blackwatch (although Pride of Scotland is also very nice), but I understand that there may well be some protocol surrounding the wearing of tartan (i.e you should only wear it if invited, or the celebration is in a certain area). I am hoping that this is all a bit of a wind up and I an Englishman is free to have a go... Any information will gratefully be received. Paul |

Wear what you want when you want.
Some people get sniffy about wearing specific family/clan tartans, but there is no problem with district tartans and such like. Some people claim Black Watch should only be worn by those with regimental associations, but it is also called the basic tartan and is available to all. |
