Thanks Nonny! Couldn't have put it better myself...

Nothing more irritating than being told your family's history by a stranger, I find!

"The name 'Stewart' comes from the Lord High Steward of Scotland (that version of the name, ie with a final 'd' is still around)... BUT it is also a name from the occupation of House Steward.... You need to read a little more.

I am a Stewart of Appin - and can trace my family back to the early 1600s. That's enough for me - don't need to know more, thanks."

In the second paragraph you say you trace your family back to the 1600's and the fact that I reach back further is of no interest to you. How then can you claim that it is I that needs to read more. You have admitted a lack of interest in the subject matter I speak of and then, in almost the same breath, claim that you, essentially know more about those same very things.

If you wish to know no more I can have no objection but I do object to your thought process when you claim to know more about something you admit to having never even been interested in.

P.S. I simply do not pay heed to someone commenting on something when they know nothing of it, as you have virtually admitted.

Hmmmm for a newcomer here, you dinnae hauf mek a loat of assumptions.

I am a Scot - what are you?

I know my country's recorded history back as far as it goes.... admittedly some eras better than others. I never said that I did not KNOW Scots history back beyond the 1600s.... just MY family line back beyond then would be almost impossible to find.... I am not taken in by all those cod-genealogical 'I can trace my direct descent from MQS, Joseph of Arimathea etc'.... Luckily, our history is all around us, most of my ancestors are buried very close by.... So you see, don't keep presuming to 'know' MY family's history, and guess what....? I won't assume to know yours.

Dear Polwarth - Stewart.Bruce.Aramaic connections

You said you WEREN'T INTERESTED in going back further than the 1600's. What are you avoiding? Is your resistance to the story of Aramaic descent based on anything you studied or are you being, as it sounds, motivated by something more emotional?

I HOPE you are a Scot but I suppose there are plenty of people that post as IF THEY ARE in order to add weight to their arguments. Is that what you are supposing I am doing? Will you stick with the subject matter and to research? Will you tell me what you base your opinion on that there is no possibility of an Aramaic connection or will you, as you immediately did, make an implication that there is a reason to doubt me other than the merits of my statements (like implying that I might not be Scottish). That reaks of a mechanism of denial wherein you attack the messenger without critically appraising the actual message and I hope anyone interested in objective research can see where this leads.

To answer your question, sir, my family is directly descended from the very first Stewart emmigrants to the United States and the esoteric traditions have been preserved with severe precision.

Now, shall we stick with the topic at hand?

I'm not AVOIDING anything. And,I have kept to the topic in hand.

By the way quote from your last post
".... and the esoteric traditions have been preserved with severe precision." What, precisely, does that mean...? You still live in a house with a mud floor, share your home with livestock, eat porridge every day... that sort of thing?

I AM a Scot - born in Edinburgh. You are NOT a Scot - you may have Scottish ancestry, but that does NOT make you a Scot.

Get real.

Don't you realise that the 'real' Scots on here are laughing at you?

BTW - I'm female, so your use of the term 'sir' is incorrect.
