Talking

I have been away from this forum for some time, so this is addressed to jacobitedreamer. You replied to my posting regarding the Hunters of Bute and the Cumbrae's, this was back in January of this year. You had found a site that I would find interesting (although in Spanish) but you forgot to include the web address, could I trouble you for this address now? Thanks.
Saor Alba.

Oh my, seems this Spanish speaking site does not exist any longer. It was about emigrants who had come to South America, as far as I remember.

However, you could try the following sites:

http://www.myclan.com/clans/Hunter_54

http://www.hunterclan.com

Thanks anyway jacobitedreamer. I do know about those sites as I was the Lieutenant to the Clan Chief at one time. It was just a long shot as my family tree comes to a screeching halt in 1645 and I keep asking in the hope something turns up.

Well, I am sorry, but I will try to help you anyway. The Spanish-speaking site was relevant for the time after 1860, as far as I remember. Maybe if you told me a bit of your family tree, the names, ranks, positions, lands of some of your ancestors. Maybe my old, dusty history books could help, for instance if one of them had something to do with the campaings of Montrose???

Jacobitedreamer. You are a gentleman but I don't have the details to hand, as remmeber it. I was born in Rosyth, my Father in Cowdenbeath, before that was Alloa/Clackmannan and before that Inveresk/Lothian. Where I am stuck is in Inveresk where John Hunter (the younger)was born October 1668. His Father John (the elder) married Marion Young we presume in Inveresk, but there is no record of his marraige. If we presume him to be about 22 when he married then his birth would be in the region of 1645. Most of the family in Inveresk were quarry workers.
Not much jacobitedreamer, I hope you have better luck than I've had.
Saor Alba.

Hm. Maybe Marhar can help with the names and birth records that he has at hand. I will however try to find something in my books. What you could do is to try and contact the churches of Inveresk and ask them if they have any records on marriages/baptisms etc. for that era.

Oh, and by the way, the jacobitedreamer is proud to act like a gentleman - but actually, she's female...
