Cool Ballantyne

Hello em my name is Joe Ballantyne I came to America in 1967 from Scotland. I now live in Phoenix.I come from the west of Scotland a little village outside of Glasgow. It is called Linwood. From what I hear we are related to the Campbells of Argyll. They have a pretty cool tartan.I bought a nice bonnet the last time I was there.Good luck with your search. If you find anything interesting let me know. Cheers

Arrow Ballantine Balantyne Bannatyne 1 of ?

My sources are from a long frustration with the above surnames. I will provide these now for anyone. I generally don't refer to the Latter Day Saints IGI/LDS. Only if desperate or for a little kick along. I use the GROS database (Scotlands People Webpage url) and FreeCen, Ancestry.com Census, Immigration records, Ellis Island pages, then the very occassional Family Web page or Net Family page ie McAllister in America.

My Family started out as Ballantine (Argyll- Killean Kichezie Campbeltown), My Gx3 Pop went to Bute to marry Janet MacKinnon (in 1815). He was a Ballantine who switched to Bannatyne. He was also from the Campbell Clan, so I guess this made good sense in amongst all those Stewarts (Yikes, brave man).

My Mothers Father was John Burden Bannatyne. His Father William MacKinnon Bannatyne and his Father the indominably fearless Archibald. (more of him later)

From a Robert of Argyll down to present:

18/09/1822 BALANTYNE ROBERT JAMES BALANTYNE/ELISABETH KENNEDY FR275 CARMICHAEL GROS-630/00 0002

From McAllister Web- Colin Campbell late Comptroller of the Customs at Campbeltown. Capt Donald Campbell, late of the Argyll Fencibles, lawful son of the defunct, decerned executor testamentar in respect of a Disposition and Assignation registered in the Burgh Court Books of Campbeltown, 12 Sep 1799 (attached). In this, he granted to his son Donald a tack of the lands of Crossbill and a lease of houses in Campbeltown at the SE end of Kirk Street and some of his personal possessions and to his son Dugald, who was merchant in Kingston, Jamaica, the farm of Auchinclach with its stock. He gave an annuity to his unmarried daughters, Christian, Elizabeth and Mary, and the proceeds of the sale of part of his stock of cattle at Lochoradale and on the Mull. He also mentioned Jenny Campbell, spouse to Robert Ballantine, sometime shipmaster in Campbeltown. He had a grandchild Sarah, daughter of Donald, a grandchild Colin, eldest son of Dugald. Two bonds of cautionry by Peter Campbell, Surveyor of Taxes, in Inveraray. Par. Campbeltown. 19 Nov 1799. Edicts of Executry CC2/8/103 No. 9.

I think thats enuf for now, more later. I just struck too many Roberts I have not verified from IGI / LDS data. I have plenty of others straight from original sources though. Bron

I only know a few generations back. A "Colonel Bannatyne" with 13 children.
There was a James Faerie Bannatyne in there too.
