My name is Peggy, I live in the USA, my Great Grandfather is from Glasgow. His name was John Cave and he had a twin brother and his father owned a bakery in Glasgow. My Great Grandfather moved to the USA in the late 1800 or early 1900. I know from family information that my Great Grandfathers father lived to be 105 years old. I would like to find my family in Scotland. Any information will be greatly appreciated. My Great Grandfather lived in Clinton Connecticute in the USA and my Great Grandmothers name was Jessie.
Thanks.

Checked the 1881 Census for Scotland, there were only 8 persons with the surname Cave in all of Scotland, one family living at No.4 Beachmount Terrace, Penninghame, Wigtonshire. Scotland
John Cave age 27 Baker Born Newton Stewart
Robena age 27 wife Born Newton Stewart
Sarah age 03 Daughter Born Newton Stewart
Mary J. age 01 daughter Born Newton Stewart

At No. 56 Arthur Street, Penninghame at the home of their Grandparents Charles and Sarah Willoughby were
Charles Cave age 07 Scholar Born Newton Stewart
Thomas Cave age 05 Scholar Born Newton Stewart

This below was in the IGI

John Cave and Robena Willoughby married 03-02-1873 at Penninghame
Charles Willoughby Cave was born 1st November 1873
None of the other children were mentioned in the IGI

I think this may be your great great grandfather and his family, they could have moved to Glasgow before your Great Grandfather was born,

The other 2 Cave’s were visitors to Scotland and were English born. The name Cave is English in origin, there were 6000 plus of that name in England in 1881

Hope this helps
Marhar

A thank you to Marhar

I would like to thank you for the information you sent to me. It is very helpful. I will now start researching with family members here and hope that they have enough knowledge of my great-grandfathers family that will show your findings to be my family. THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR HELP.

Cave Family

Hello,
My name is Heather and I saw your post on Scotland.com looking for family members of John and Robena Cave. My great grandmother Elizabeth Dinwoody Cave is John and Robena's granddaughter. Not only do I have contact with the family in Scotland (I live in the U.S.), I also have contact with Charles Willoughby Cave's son and family in Austrialia. My email address is freedommay02@yahoo.com if you would like send me an email and we can compare notes, if I can not answer your questions we have tons of family members who can. I look forward to hearing from you.
Heather

Looking for Cave family of Glasgow

Peggy,

I have just recently read your post of Looking for Cave family. I have found many of the Caves and I believe you are on the right track. I am in contact with John Robert Cave and his family. John Robert was my grandmother's half brother from his first family. Charles Willoughby Cave is my great-grandfather.

My email address is: grnmountgrl@yahoo.com, if you would like more information. I also would like any information that you may have.

Thanks a bunch,

Rory Hughes (Ms.)
