How true. We are all related if you go far enough back and I mean back to the beginning, if you get my drift.

Let's assume that your dad's aunt was a descendant of Robert the Bruce; ok, if she died childless then she would have been the last in her branch of the family tree. However, how does your dad (or your aunt if it was her who told him) make the leap to there being no other lines of that family tree left anywhere in the world? The fact is, there are still people alive today that are descendants of Robert the Bruce... and I don't mean the fantasists who try and stake their claim without providing anything that even resembles proof!

Sorry Wm Jas, while I don't dispute your claim, too many have done the same as you and provided a line from a website and then claimed a connection to that line for many (including me) to take them seriously... tho I have no doubt you (like all the rest) will have some sort of proof; whether others choose to believe you (or your proof) is another matter!

I'm a descendnat of the Lord of the Isles

Wrong thread I know, but I'm a descendant of the Lord of the Isles. I think there are a lot of people who are though. I am not a MacDoand and the connection is through several very distant female ancestors.

Good for you DreadGod. As you say, there are a lot of people that will be descended from at least one of the Lords (and of course, ultimately, Somerled) and, as with the Bruce, there will always be some descendants around (tho no doubt a few will still claim to be the last in the line, but we can just ignore them). The problem with certain people called MacDonald is they assume that because they have that name that they are descended from Somerled, etc and don't bother with having to prove it!

At least with the Lords of the Isles and the Bruce there are known descendants... not something that can be said about Wallace despite the number of people who claim to descended from him! As for me, I'll just stick to being descended from all the poor people that I have found in my own family tree so far!

Scotsites,

My claim is no better nor worse than to believe that Stirnet has it correct. I have spent enough time on that site to know that while there are a few holes and discrepancies among some folks several generations removed from royalty I believe that the principal lineage of Scotland’s royal households is not generally in dispute. Am I wrong?

My personal family genealogy [written in the 1770’s by my direct male-line ancestor] goes back to Gilbert Keith as the son of the 3rd Earl Marischal.

Do you have any knowledge that Stirnet has it wrong before that or do you have any reason to suspect that Stirnet is not credible?

It is also quite a claim that Stirnet makes about all persons of Scots lineage being descended from James II. Can anyone confirm or dispute this claim?

This is not a challenge to your skepticism. I would like to know what folks think of Stirnet.
