Now, I hope you got me right, I did not want to call your claim absurd, but it sure is a daring one. Great thing if you find proof for it, really. If not, not a shame either.
![]() Who knows what illustrous figures each of us has in his/her families without knowing. ![]() Just would like to ask you to keep us informed. Okay?

Descendants of Robert the Bruce
Like bonniefair, I too have been told by family that we are descendants of King Robert Bruce. I do not claim this to be true because I have no idea on how to find out. Also my information is limited, but I'll give it a try anyway. My name is Eric Paul Bruce and I was born in Illinois, US on 9/5/69. My father is Thomas Wayne Bruce. He too was born in Illinois on 5/20/39. My grandfather's name was Thomas A. Bruce. I think the A. was for Alvin, but I'm not sure on that. He, however, was born in Scotland sometime in the teens. I want to say 1915 or 1917. He immigrated with his parents when he was 8 years old. This is the limit of my information. My curiosity has been stoked lately because I will be making a business trip to Manchester, UK on the 21st of June. I will be working for a branch plant of ours and will be their for two weeks. If anyone could offer any information as to my ancestry I would be extremely pleased. I really do not know much about the homeland except for the information I have been getting from this website which I just found today.

Re: Descendants of Robert the Bruce
Hi Hawkeye,
this is all very interesting, I think Marhar has some possibility to find out your family line, but still, there are some centuries missing in this to make it clear if or if not you are a direct descendant of Robert the Bruce. After all, you are A Bruce. Which is a thing to be proud of, too. ![]()

The Bruce and The Wallace.
It never fails to amaze me of the amount of people, mainly from outwith Scotland who claim descent from either Bruce or Wallace, yet here in Scotland itself this does not seem to be the case in general. Perhaps we native Scots are too shy ?
Re the post from Wallace The Bruce, he lists himself as a amatuer genologist, then goes on to say that to be able to trace ancestry back is nigh near immpossible unless there is some evedince of money or nobility in the family line, and for the "poor" it is an exception to get back even as far as the 1750,s. I find that surprising coming from someone resident in Scotland. Myself, and no doubt, thousand of other family tree researchers have got back to the 1750,s by using the Census returns and The Old Parish Records which most Counties in Scotland hold copies of in their local libraries, and failing that, can continue their research through <scotlandspeople.gov.uk> which although charges a fee, is an excellent site for serious researchers. Here, here to the previous poster!
I have met amny people who believe (genuinely believe), they are descecnded from Royalty or some other famous Scot. We would all love to find that we have some romantic character in our family history (I'm sure some of us actually do), but the truth is, we are more likely to find that we are descented from the village cobbler! That's not a bad thing - ordinary folk are usually far more interesting anyway. Parent's have a knack of confusing their children, not intentioanlly, but what we hear as children we often forget may not be the truth as we get older. I remember my grannie telling me she was related to Flora MacDonald (the one who helped Price Charlie flee) - her name was Flora MacDonald as well. Now that I'm a wee bit older, I know that was just a tease and she was highly unlikely to be related, but it was nice to hear when I was little and was probably one of the things that got me interested in geneology and history generally - so it wasn't a bad thing. If you set out to trace your family history with the sole intention of proving a link to someone famous - you are in for a real disappointment. Look only for truths - not romantic notions and you'll get on a whole lot better. |

If you were lucky enough to trace your direct lineage back to Robert the Bruce in the early 1300s, you would find that in 23 generations you would have amassed the total of 8,388.608 Direct Ancestors.
So in some respect everyone alive today must be related in some way if you could go back far enough......LOL Marhar The Wallace.
