If I'm waaay off base about this please be patient with me, I've only just begun to investigate Scottish names in my ancestry... and am totally bummed out that there isn't a single clearly Scottish name to be found!
I have Daniell on my grandma's side, is there much chance that this comes from McDaniell if I go back far enough? Susan hoping she's got a bit of Scot blood there somewhere...

Daniels
Hey... my mom's name is Daniels and I've run into similar difficulties, but yes, the connection is clan Donald, and you should be able to get more info through Clan Donald, U.S.A. Inc. or similar groups internationally.
Daniels led me to Aberdeen as a source of the origin of that version, and it seems like all the versions of the name are from roughly Aberdeenshire. good luck! Holly |

So there is a connection even if there isn't a "Mc" on the front of the Daniell?? Terrific! Thanks for the suggestions, Holly, I'll sure check into it.
Just this week, my mother heard from her cousin who has been putting together a family genealogy book & this cousin told her that one of their ancestors came from the Isle of Man! She didn't know where that was and thought it was Irish, but when I researched it I found that it was taken by the Scots from the Scandinavians originally, then was controlled by Scotland then England, then Scotland then England (and so on!) from the 1200's until the 1700's when England got it for good. So maybe this will be a Scotland connection too! We should be getting a copy of this family book around Christmastime. Susan |
