Job search - only Call-Center jobs for Foreigners?

Hi everybody, I am planning to move from Germany to Scotland in 2012 or 2013, but have to find a job first.

On the usual job platforms I only found Call Center jobs with a salary range around 12000 - 15000 Pounds per year. This is nothing if you want to rent a 1-bed-room flat and pay your daily living.

Here are my questions:

1) Has any foreigner here experience in working in a Call Center?
2) Can you live on that salary?
3) How did you manage to find a job?

I am looking forward to hearing from you
Steffi

Thank you

Thanks for your reply. Well, I already looked into several job www sites, but the problem is that I do not want to work in a Call Center. I speak and write several languages, already tried to apply with translation services - so far without luck, but I keep on looking.

You really think one can survive on more or less 1000 Pounds per month in Edinburgh??? Financing a flat and daily living???

I just returned from Edinburgh, looking at the local property market, the prices are really high, also if you just go into a supermarket and buy vegetables and fruit.....

Well anyway, thanks for your help. I keep on looking :-)

Just a thought...live outside Edinburgh, probably cheaper and you could commute to work or
consider somewhere else than Edinburgh to start with.

Also...don't go to the main large supermarkets...use Lidl or Aldi

I asked Bill for help as he used to work in a call centre and if Steffi cannot find any other work the
name he has given would be helpful to her.

Question 3) How did you manage to find a job?

Is the one Bill was replying to, maybe he should have mentioned that but he didn't.
