I suppose the ability to move would depend on wether you owned or rented your home.
What I am meaning do your personal circumstances allow the freedom of moving elsewhere ?

If I rented from the council I would not do an exchange to Cumbernauld as I do know people
who did 'escape' and I also know a couple others that like it there.

Advice at the minute(assuming that you are council renting) would be to look into other towns
council sites and see if a move to Cumbernauld is wanted by anyone.

Another thought is to see if there are housing associations too.

At one time if you found employment in a town/city you could go on the council list and
more than not find somewhere easily...but then again you would not get a choice of area
in the town.
Aberdeen used to be one of those places but nowadays they do not seem to have any spare
properties due to the EU influx.

Hope some of the Scottish residents can be helpful.
