If you're in Edinburgh in August, then it is the height of the tourist season with the various Festivals all still in full swing (Fringe, Festival, TV, Book).
Trying to find a non-touristy pub in that time period is almost impossible.

The tourist invasion extends to most parts of Scotland. Beware the midgies on Skye and the Highlands - they will still be biting (ferociously) and in my experience, love women more than men!
