Yawn - just another Muslims "claim the moral high ground" thread. The reality of muslims is somewhat different. The Islamic Gulf country I live in (not Dubai) has surprising incidence of homosexuality amongst its nationals, though it's supposed to be illegal and against Islamic law. I suspect even Saudi has its quota of discreet gays too. Rape is frequent too, but as the victims are Indonesian, Sri Lankan or Filipina, it never gets in the newspapers and the police have no interest. The perpetrators are often local Arab taxi-drivers. “Baluchis”, Arab nationals from remote villages and the desert who gravitate to the city, are recognized as being uncontrollable at the sight of foreign (and alone) women, but it's not just them who do this. My wife’s Filipina friend was raped 2 weeks ago in a residential street by such an animal, but being as the attacker was reported as a national, the police aren’t interested. Filipinas and Sri Lankans have even been gang-raped, murdered and dumped in scrub-land or supermarket dumpsters at night and nothing was ever seen in the news or the papers. To mention these to a local would meet with total disbelief. Local men also touch up foreign women passing in shopping malls. Women have the right to complain to police, but unless the woman is a white Westerner, the police don’t take action.
Is this Islam or Arab mentality at fault ? Surely Islam is supposed to cure men of such behaviour. No wonder Arab women have to wear black abayas to protect them from certain animalistic Arab muslim men.
