Just wanted to offer some support. My name is Jennifer, and I'm also from Connecticut, USA.
I'm new to this, too, and am hoping to get some new friends.
I haven't been over to Scotland yet myself, but am really, really trying to plan something for next year. I've been doing my family history and find that just about everyone (even as close as my great-grandfather) on both sides is from Scotland.
