Scots Dialect : Where is it spoken ?
How ye's aal ?
I would like as many opinions as i can on how far down you think the Scots dialect goes, does it go any further than the border?
As an Englishman (just! mind, by mebbes about 1hr in the car) we don't get taught about Scots nor did we learn anyhting about local dialect, which leaves alot wondering why we don't speak how we are taught to write.
I'm a bit into my history and geography and have quite enjoyed reading a bit of Scots recently, i was oblivious when finding out from a mate (he's from Leeds) that according to him and just about everyone south of Hartlepool that Scots is uncomprehensible. I always knew that tha dialects of North east England shared a bit some similarities with Scots, but only recently it ht me that I ACTUALLY SPEAK SCOTS!!
So many of the words i read i always thought were just local dialect words, like 'Wattah' for Water, 'Fowah' for four and mak/tak for make/take.
So, your turn:
[A] YOU ARE TALKING A LOAD OF BALLS.
[b] YOU MAY HAVE A POINT HERE LAD.
[C] SCOTS IN ENGLAND? WHEY NAW!
[D] I'M NOT SURE, LET ME STROKE MY CHIN AND THINK ABOUT IT.
[E] AYE A COURSE YE'S DEE MAN!
