The reality of Scotland is definitely different to the books. There are aspects of each area (history, legend, etc) that are real, but the reality is they are the romantic aspects. Life in general here is no different to anywhere else - we go through our daily routines (whether it is work, family, whatever) and make time for relaxation, leisure as and when we can! (Of course, there are those lucky enough to be able to make more time for the latter... and I am happy with that situation
)
The best way to experience anything is to live it and I wish you all the best with your search for a job here... but read through the other topics with regard to getting a job and everything else you need to do as well before sending the CV off!
