To my hopeful find in Scotland. My name is Herbert w. Neeland.Recently, I found an old Neeland History geneology book. Our name was spelled Kneeland, Neelands, and at one time it was Cleland. This book was written in 1931.Are "coat of arms","Kneland of YAT ILK" This was presented to James Kneland,by Robert the Bruce ,after the battle of "Banockburn".This also is used by the "Clelands. There is a Falcon sitting on an armoured fist, resting on a shielded helmet. There is a "Hare, or rabbitt",jumping to the left. All this is on a shield, surrounded by something like foliage.
The second coat of arms was given to Major Wm. Kneeland, by Mary Stuart. The original is still in the possesion of the family.
The book says that we were involved in the battels of, Stirling, Falkirk,Nevilles Cross,Portiers,Flodden,Killiecrankie and Dunkeld. My heart jumped a beat, when the book said that we fought along side, "Sir William Wallace". Since the book was finished in 1931, I was thrilled, that the Movie had nothing to do with the validity of this book, and the question .Is Mr. Neeland just making this up. The second coat of arms, is a Lion sitting on a shielded helmet. The helmet is atop a shield with a Lion walking, carrying a small shield with a cross insignia. The words at the bottom are "A Gruce ET Ferro Corona" I would just love to hear that I have realitives in Scotland. We are very proud of our heritage, and pray, that there is validity to it.I would appreciate any correspondence .....Thank you from the bottom of my Scotish heart.
