Ok so now I have a real wicked question.......
My grandfather was a Nicol. Would that surname place him in the Nicol, McNicol, MacNicol clan or would it be a sept of another clan? I ask this question also for the purpose of picking out a proper tarten and such. I have been told the MacNicol clan by some and others say it is a sept. A bit of other information is that he was in the Black Watch and due to that fact and the fact that I served 20 years in the US Air Force I have been told to wear the Black Watch pattern. His unit was the Cameron Highlanders and I understand they have their own tarten too. Also more fun here....My dad was a Ross. I do not know if he was a Scottish "Ross" though. Hope you can see my delima here and maybe help me out.
