Airdrie Utd 1-0 Forfar Athletic

A superb header from striker Stephen Docherty was enough to ensure Airdrie United got off to a winning Second Division start at home to Forfar.

The Diamonds had to wait until 12 minutes from the end to secure victory, however, with Docherty powering home Paul Armstrong's inviting cross.

Airdrie felt they should have had a penalty in the first half when forward Paul Ronald burst into the area before being bundled over as he was about to cross. The referee waved aside all claims.

Minutes after going ahead, the home side almost doubled their advantage when David McGuire's run ended with a neat cut-back to Marvyn Wilson, who mis-hit his shot completely with the goal gaping.
