Generally referred to simply as "The Games", the Braemar Gathering dates back to 1832, with each event offering loads of entertainment, for both participants and spectators. Taking place on the first Saturday of September each year, Braemar's Highland Games are attended by members of the Royal family, and is an occassion to be remembered.
The program for the 2009 Braemar Gathering includes the traditional Hill Race up Morrone, Scottish Pipe Bands in all their glory culminating in the customary Massed Pipe Bands, dancers, and teams from H.M. Forces competing in the InterServices Unit Tug of War Championship, as well as the Services Medley Relay Race. Local and international athletes will compete in the athletic events of the day, including Tossing the Caber, Throwing the Hammer and Putting the Stone.
