Castles in Edinburgh

Craigmillar Castle
Just three miles south east of Edinburgh is one of the best preserved medieval castles of Scotland, Craigmillar Castle. This imposing L plan towerhouse was originally built in the 14th Century and fortifications were added subsequently. Its location is such that from the roof of the towerhouse one has a view of the entire city and its surroundings in all directions.
Edinburgh Castle
Edinburgh Castle is the grandest castle in Scotland and the history and growth of the country and the castle have been closely intertwined over the centuries. The structure, built on a huge volcanic Craig known as Castle Rock, dominates the city. It is visible from everywhere and offers the most spectacular view from every elevation. On a clear day you can see the mountains of the Kingdom of Fife in the distance and immediately below you are the world famous Princes Street Gardens.
