New Hampshire Highland Games at Loon Mountain

The New Hampshire Highland Games at Loon Mountain is hosted by a non-profit organization known as the New Hampshire Gathering of Scottish Clans. It is an organization that is dedicated to the preservation of the Gaelic culture and the traditions that are unique to the Scottish. Interest in the New Hampshire Highland Games at Loon Mountain has grown with every passing year, not only in regard to the participants, but the games have seen an increase in spectators as well.

As with the years before, the slopes of Loon Mountain in the White Mountain Forest Reserve will come alive, once again, to host a great variety of fascinating and entertaining sports, competitions and events. Not only are the games a great crowd pleaser, but it is not every day that one gets the opportunity to see more than sixty Scottish Clans and various societies together.

Visitors to the games at Loon Mountain this year, which takes place in September, can look forward to all their favorite events. The program includes a vast selection of musical events such as the Scottish Harp Competition, the New England Regional Scottish Fiddle Championship, Drumming, Massed Bands and Solo Piping. Other musical activities include the Celtic World Music Concerts, performances from twenty-nine pipe bands that come from the United States and from Canada, and performances featuring Andrew Warren, Seven Nations, The Brigadoons, Greenwich Meantime, Alasdair Fraser and John Carmichael will be entertaining audiences. A highly anticipated, foot-tapping competition that also takes place during this cultural Scottish festival is the National Highland Dance Competition.

The Sheepdog Trials are always a favorite with animal lovers and have a great number of spectators that enthusiastically watch these talented and well-trained dogs perform. Athletes get the opportunity to show off their strength and abilities in the Heavyweight Scottish Athletics competitions.
