Glasgow on Ice
As the festive Christmas season starts getting underway across the world, tree decorations are being pulled out the closet, the menu for Christmas lunch is being prepared and the list for daunting Christmas shopping is being drawn up. But the hard work is almost forgotten when the streets come alive with Christmas lights, an atmosphere of love and forgiveness fills the air and the cheerful shrieks of playing children drift across the snow.
Most of us can only dream of having a white Christmas, but residents of Scotland, especially Glasgow, look forward to the joys of building snowmen, engaging in snow fights and getting out their ice skates to glide across the ice. With all this in mind, Glasgow will once again host the annual Glasgow on Ice from 25 November until the 25 December 2007. During this time, George Square in Glasgow is transformed into the biggest outdoor ice-skating rink in the whole of Europe, complete with Christmas lights, decorations and elves, that make skaters feel as if they have just entered a magical winter palace.
Glasgow on Ice brings out the true spirit of Christmas, with carols being played and non-stop action on the ice. It will help anyone forget about their Christmas shopping woes. The rink is lined with quaint stores, a rink side café and rides for children. When taking a break from skating, visitors to Glasgow on Ice can sit back and relax in the café, watching the skaters and elves go about their business. And every now and then Santa Claus comes gliding by. This year, the popular Santa’s Grotto will return to George Square and there will also be themed evenings, ice discos and a range of other exciting events taking place.
To enjoy a wonderful and exciting white Christmas for 2007, it is recommended that everyone visiting Scotland make their way to Glasgow and join in the fun. The festive spirit has never been so alive than on the ice of the Glasgow on Ice spectacular. Between shopping, skaters can promote and show off their skating skills under the brilliant lights of the looming George Square Christmas tree.
