Fantastic Angus and Dundee Regions
Between Aberdeenshire and the Perth/Kinross region, Angus and Dundee offer rugged coastlines and soft rolling foothills. A great place to unwind and spend a holiday, Angus and Dundee offer a variety of sports, sights and activities.
Dundee is the smaller of the two, but that doesn't mean it has a shortage of sights and attractions. The Broughty Castle and Museum is a 15th century fort that has displays on local history, wildlife, armor and a whaling exhibit. Discovery Point is another popular attraction. Here you will find the RRS Discovery - the ship built to take Captain Scott to Antarctica - where sound effects and exhibits will help you to get a feel for the voyage. If you prefer to leave history in the past, you might try the Downfield Golf Club or Kingennie Fishings. Camperdown Country Park is another great option as it provides a wildlife center, a mini amusement park, tennis courts, a child play area and boating. There is a Camperdown golfing facility nearby and you can hire horses in the town, which can be ridden through the park.
Angus has coastal attractions, easy slow paced walks or harder hill-walks for those who prefer a bit more of a challenge. You can explore the glens on horseback or pack in your bicycle for either quite cycling or harder mountain biking routes. There are several fishing, fly fishing and angling spots in Angus and you can also take a more passive view of the fish by scuba diving, skiing or canoeing. You might also like to try your hand at clay pigeon shooting or take a trip to the Cairngorms National Park.
For the most part, the natural beauty of the regions seems untainted and calm. It is a great place to explore and you will find not only ocean views and rolling hills, but also ancient forests, rivers and purple heather moors. You might even be fortunate enough to spot some of the natural wildlife. Certainly, Angus and Dundee have a lot to offer.

There are many nice things about the village of Edzell, one of them are the lovely walks, especially the river walks. The common is ideal for relaxing as a family and there is a nice selection of shops to buy from. This is a must go to see village and is ideal for a weekend visit.

My great Uncle Andrew Aitkenhead was a butler here for 23 years. I have a picture taken in front of the castle of the horse drawn carriage with the casket of the Earl of Southesk at his funeral in 1942.

I remember playing within the ruins of the Mains castle when I was a lad. There was a caretaker who lived on the premises but his house was destroyed by a fire. I had my first taste of venison when the great hall was restored. and made into a restaurant.

"The Lordship and Barony of Dudhope" is listed for sale on a website http://www.baronytitles.com/forsale/. Is this barony for sale? Are you the one who has placed it on the market? I am interested in the particulars of the Barony for sale and trying to verify the legality of the sale. And if you are the owner and didn't put this up for sale you might want to follow up on the website I have listed.

I visited the castle at the beginning of October, 2009. I was utterly amazed at just how much had been accomplished to turn what was a ruin into a charming residence. The new stone work was very impressive. The garden utterly charming and the lawns looking particularly well after the horrible winds and rain we have had over the past few weeks. I took many photographs of the castle from all angles. Would I be correct in assuming that the small tree I found to the rear of the tower was in fact a walnut? My outing was a complete and utter thrill.

I remember Breching Castle very well. As a boy of around 11, I used to deliver the evening paper from a local shop at the bottom of the High St in Brechin, through the grounds to the castle. I can still feel the goose bumps and the hair standing up on the back of my neck.

I do genealogy research for myself and others..Glamis Castle at one time was home to some of my way back grandparents in the Lyon Clan, from what I understand..my American Lyon Clan settled in southeastern KY in USA...fascinating to see the past...even if pictures only and not in person...

I am a descendent of Viscount Dundee John Graham of Claverhouse. (As I understand; in 1601 the Strachan family sold the castle to Sir William Graham of Ballunie who later sold it to Sir William Graham of Claverhouse--the castle became the property of the crown in 1689 after the death of the then current owner Viscount Dundee John Graham of Claverhouse at the batttle of Killiecrankie.) I will be in Edinburgh, Scotland (1st time) on Friday, September 18, 2009. I would love an opportunity to visit the castle but have no idea how to go about it. I am coming in on an organized tour from the US--St. Louis, MO--and Friday, September 18 I will be 'on my own'. Can you or someone else help me with this? Many thanks. Susan High
